Grand Master of the Jed Order, Satele Shan has seen a lot in her time. She is also the Jedi Master of Arik. Both of the Force users have grown to admire each other as friends. Despite their friendship, she and him maintained a bond that is likened to a mother-son bond, something she denied herself with Theron Shan. For nearly 16 years, along with her duties as Grand Master, she devoted her lot of her time to training her "second" son. Teaching him not just how to use a single lightsaber, but how to use two of them and a saberstaff. In addition, she also taught him how to deal with situations diplomatically rather than violence. Unlike her Masters, she did leave him in the dark about certain issues, such as love and marriage. She even taught the importance of weighing his actions before carrying them out. That lesson saved Arik's life more than once.

However, what happened to her apprentice would push her to greatest limits. She learned about a Dark Lord whose skills mirrored that of Arik. It was on Corellia, that she learned who Deimos was. It turned out he did not just mirror Arik, he was Arik twisted by the Dark side. She was shocked as to see him turn to the dark side. She reluctantly fought her student. She was forced to scar him to stop him from attack him. It was not until Dantooine, that she was reunited with her student. It was during the trip to Nar Shaddaa to get cybernetics for his left arm that she learned why Arik turned to the dark side. He revealed that five days before the mission to Yavin 4, he had slept with his fianceé Angelique. During the time he was tortured, he did not realize that he had impregnated her. It was on the third day that she told him before being stabbed by Vitiate with Arik's own lightsaber. Outraged, he attacked landing three blows to his vessel's face before controlling him with a touch of his finger. They then surmised that what Vaylin did to him twenty years ago left a hole in his mind. This left him with a vulnerable spot open to control by anyone. Upon discovering it, she healed his mind wound with the light side of the Force. After his self-imposed exile and his first mission in four years, she sent him on a vacation hoping that he would relax and help him heal. She can only hope that he will move on and hopefully find love someday with a certain granddaughter of hers...
