In the episode Ed-n-Seek the eds (after finding their way into the neighborhood hide and seek game) come up with the idea of hiding in a fake bush filled with food until they are declared the winners. in the episode The Day the Ed stood Still (after apparently bailing for whatever reason) they decided to take refuge under Eddy's bed as he reveals he keep "a couple of months' worth of supplies for when the heat gets turned up"

Now considering both ideas stem from the idea of needing to keep out of the kids line of sight for a while it makes sense it would have inspired eddy to turn the under part of his bed into a make shift bunker.

I still say its enjoyable to see that Eddy, who gets straight F's and manages to still graduate, has enough brain power to anticipate, that at some point in their shenanigans, theyd need to be out of sight for a while. but who knows.
