Description Inostrancevia, meaning "foreign ancestors," was a prehistoric carnivorous mammal-like reptile that lived during the Late Permian period, approximately 260 million years ago. It belonged to a group of therapsids known as gorgonopsians, which were the apex predators of their time. Inostrancevia was among the largest and most formidable of these ancient predators, reaching lengths of up to 12 feet (3.5 meters) and weighing over half a ton. Inostrancevia had a robust body structure, with a massive head and a pair of long, saber-like canine teeth in its upper jaw. These formidable teeth were used to deliver powerful bites, allowing Inostrancevia to take down its prey efficiently.
