Keep with it and you will be very successful. I'm a huge Earthbound fan, and I actually plan on getting a tattoo of the earth symbol in the O from MOTHER on my calf. The only problem is, I can't find a vector image of it anywhere....

I feel bad I didn't comment on this before 
What I notice most here is that Boney is walking toward the viewer and can only be partially seen. It's like a photograph snapped quickly, and the dog happened to get in the way a bit. But I think that gives it a natural and intimate feel, like we are looking at a scrapbook or album of Lucas's life. The background is cool, too!

I really want to play them, but I don't have the system and games cost a LOT of money. I do have a friend who has the SNES and the first game. I might borrow it from him at some point.

The textures are a nice choice and Hinawa's, like, awesomely portrayed, but I think that what's coolest is how your "anatomically incorrect" Lucas matches this piece's style so much more than if he were anatomically perfect- the long and stretched feel makes it seem like both he and his life have gone in the upward direction.

You definitely captured the "heartrending" feeling of Mother 3 here...
...and yet I don't feel sad. This picture just reminds me of all the reasons I love the game, too, and all the reasons that Mother 3 makes me unreasonably happy despite all the depressing things that happen therein.
The textures and the sky itself are awesome, too. Really, this entire picture reeks of fantastic.

Lucas wasn't giving a half-smile in the original sketch--he was looking troubled/lost. But I was trying to redraw his mouth one night so I could make it my avatar, and...it just stuck around for the curtain call.
I guess I'd just seen too much fan art depicting this scene in a depressing manner and wanted to show how much he'd grown up, and how much stronger he became after having such a traumatic childhood. There's this glint of hope you see in his eyes, it's also all around him in the form of the sunflowers and the calm, peaceful ghost of his mother. The grave--death--is certainly not the centerpiece here.

Now that you mention it, it is usually shown as a depressing scene...for good reason, of course, but I do like how you portrayed it differently.
Well, part of drawing (and writing, etc.) is that it's not done until you say it's done. So in a way, if it changed and you stuck with it, it was just meant to be changed, I guess.
When I saw the picture, I imagined that Lucas is of to follow Boney - off to whatever adventure awaits them - and has jus given the sunflower field (and the grave, of course, and thus Hinawa) one final look before gazing in to the distance, the hopeful future that he'll soon set off in to. Because Mother 3 is the type of game that stays with you, and is always going on despite the fact that the story itself is over...or something like that. ^____^
