Description
Based on the "John Carter of Mars" books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, I made this for my "space pulp adventure" pic in the realistic comic book style. The characters featured from left to right are John Carter, his wife and princess of Helium (Red Martian City State), Dejah Thoris, and their friend, Tars Tarkas, the Jeddak (king/chief) of the Tharks (Green Martians living the ruins of Thark).

The setup of Burroughs' Mars books is that John Carter, a former confederate soldier (don't hold it against him) finds himself astroprojected to Mars, or Barsoom as the natives call it, where he goes on several adventures and romances the beautiful and witty Dejah Thoris while saving her from capture by vile villains. The first three books make up a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end, while the others in the series can be considered standalones.

I read the first three books years ago, and I'm looking to do a re-read soon along with the rest of the series.

Given how long this pic took me to make, I think I'll take a break from this art style for a while.
