"Having come to the realization that he possessed powerful broadcast empathic abilities, Mike Angelo could have easily used his powers for personal gain, however, he grew up idolizing superheroes and their moral code and dreamed of being one himself someday. His friends, however, always told him he’d have to be “some kind of fool” to want to risk his life in that manner. This instead inspired him to do just that.
Taking their advice, he designed the identity of the Jester or “Fool”.
Jester was a founding member of the Avant Guardians super team, and was its original acting leader. He has gone from being a fanboy with a near encyclopedic knowledge of superhumans, to being one of the more experienced superheroes out there. His career has taken him across the USA, the world, and even to other planets and dimensions.

As far as his equipment & abilities go... The marotte (scepter) can produce a small energy field, allowing it to act as a powered mace or laser-like sword. It can fire energy blasts from its eyes, produce a blinding flash from its bells, and act as a digital camera. His costume is made from various protective materials from his head to his toes. Special lenses allow night vision and protect from sudden lighting changes. Air filtering equipment (displayed as a blue covering for the open “smile” portion of his mask) is available when needed. The bells on his torso can be removed and thrown, and are typical superhero gadget fare (glue, smoke, fire retardants, etc). Spring loaded soles allow for leaping great distances as well. He also occasionally uses small tracer bugs, his “laff trackers”, shaped like color schemed emojis.

While not a highly skilled or accomplished martial artist, he’s rather quick and agile, able to dodge blows well. He tends to rely on his weaponry, but commonly makes knee strikes when in close combat.

His empathic powers are actually more powerful than he lets on. He often uses this ability as a form of danger sense, being able to detect the emotions of everyone in his immediate vicinity. This gives the benefit of sensing any malice, making him difficult to surprise and easier to pinpoint an enemy’s location. He is actually capable of altering the emotions of others, but is reluctant to use this ability, as he finds it a morally repugnant form of mind control. Truth is, he used to use it on criminals early in his Jester career, often infuriating them into making mistakes, or causing them to give up due to guilt. However, an odd spike in his power lead to the creation of a fanatical nemesis, and also caused him to take advantage of a friend, so he’s been afraid to use this portion of his power since.
