Nigel Spire was a spindly kid, always picked on for being a bit "weird". He vowed that he would be someone some day and read up on how to gain the power to do just that. He became the world's foremost researcher of the occult, and went on to become the world's Majesty Mage (much to the chagrin of others, such as Matthias Thornn and Doc Gothic). He served as a hero in this stead for years, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps, teaching courses at the local university. Once he was a well known and trusted occult hero, Satan and his minions began their plan, The demon Thanaton was unleashed upon the world, and Professor Spire was to stop him. Thanaton grew tired of the ruse however, broke ranks, and killed him instead. His body left broken and lifeless, and his soul now confronted by his life's decisions, a teenager began praying for him...
Nigel was in Hell, Satan's minion Scratch having explained to him how he ended up there somewhat prematurely. Suddenly a powerful figure appears and removes Nigel from his torturous shackles, returning him to life. He finds the boy praying over him and speaks with him. As Professor Spire, he has "visited other worlds and dimensions", but cannot believe what happened to him. The boy explains as best he can, and takes him to his pastor. Nigel then comes to understand, accepts that Christ saved his soul, and reevaluates his life. He returns home to his sanctum (ironically, a tall spired former church) and waiting there for him is the Armor of God. He then sets out to stop the demon Thanaton before Satan's plan of building up another occult leader can come to fruition.

Powers: Blessed with the Armor of God The armor itself is unbreakable. If feeling low on faith, it can feel heavier and uncomfortable, and possibly even difficult to summon. If strong in faith, it feels like silk and breathes like Egyptian cotton. The Belt of Truth detects lies and allows him to see through illusions, The Breastplate of Righteousness offers him additional protection and danger sense, so that he can face all dangers head on. The Boots of Readiness allow swifter running, and the ability to stand firm to a spot regardless of outside forces. The Shield of Faith is a shining, translucent force shield that appears from his gauntlet bracer when he has faith that it is needed to stop or deflect attacks. The Helmet of Salvation protects from psionic, as well as poison, and other environmental attacks. The Sword of the Spirit can produce a blinding flash, and is capable of cutting through most anything, though in most cases it instead cleaves through the soul, to various effects. He has also displayed other traditional biblical abilities on occasion, such as super strength, water walking, and speaking in tongues, so that he is understood in all languages
