Description I know this one's not that different than the other Lucy shot I submitted a few days ago, but wanted to post this to cheer myself up.
Thanks in part to the fear-mongering propaganda of the HSUS, 145 pit bulls (including over 60 puppies, some born during the trial of their owner) seized from a bust in North Carolina were euthanized yesterday (2/17/09) without being given a second chance at life.

Read more about it here: [link]

It's days like this that I just have to hug my Pit Bull close and hope that something good comes from this terrible injustice. I'm glad that I've been able to give Lucy such a happy life since I've owned her. So many pit bulls don't get that chance, including these 145 unfortunate souls.

I feel horribly for the dogs and the shelter workers who likely spend all day killing these innocent dogs.

If any of you watching this gallery donate to the HSUS, please, reconsider that support, especially if you care about pit bulls at all. Do some research on their hypocrisy, if the blog linked above isn't enough to convince you.

RIP to the dogs from WSK. They didn't deserve their fate, and killing them wasn't the only option, despite the spin the HSUS is putting on this whole horrible fiasco.

A beautiful portrait! Not just the lighting and composition, etc. but that it portrays pit bulls in a happy, friendly way -just a dog loving to be outside. I'm putting this in my journal!

Lucy is beautiful. I love APBT's. It is such a shame how many are mistreated and killed every day.

in NC? I thought the south would rather kill someone than let someone hurt their pits. But maybe that's just where I am.

Yes, this happened in NC. There have been several articles about the case, and at least one is linked to in the description under the photo I posted.

It's definitely not the first time that an APBT kennel in the southern states has been raided and all or most of the dogs seized and ultimately euthanized. It happened to Floyd Boudreaux's dogs in Louisiana a few years back. All of the dogs belonging to Boudreaux were euthanized before the case even went to trial, which is allowed by law in Louisiana.

In the recent incident in NC, Faron surrendered his dogs because he was being brought up on charges of selling dogs for illegal purposes (I believe). Once the dogs were surrendered, they were placed in the care of local animal control, and under tremendous pressure from many sources, animal control put down all of the dogs. I might not be relating the story with 100% accuracy, so you really should read the articles for yourself.

You have a fantastic looking dog and this photo displays you're obvious love for her quite perfectly.

I've featured this image in my journal ^_^

I heard about that incident too, and it makes me furious.

I thought we were making steps ahead after the whole Michael Vick thing. Guess the HSUS is still doing their best to keep things stupid and backward.

Yes, I thought that the Vick dogs would really give people the evidence they needed and disprove all the ridiculous propaganda trumpeted by the HSUS, but the HSUS seems determined not to face the real music.

But maybe this is the last horrible gasp of a dying behemoth. Maybe this will open the eyes of HSUS supporters. Maybe this is rock bottom, and things will start getting better from here.

How's your pup doing, by the way? Well, I hope!

Sadie's doing great! She's a happy and completely ridiculous animal, and she likes to have fun every day. Seriously the best dog.

Crud! I saw the story before, and now I feel awful that they're gone. I looked at the blogs and one of the articles and I can't believe what the Humane Society is saying. They justified the deaths by saying the Vick rescued dogs weren't true examples of fighting dogs, but these N. Carolina dogs WERE? *smack* Aren't these the guys who do those commercials with Sarah Maclachan's (msp) music, which have at least one PIT BULL in the commercial?

Not a favorable follow-up to the good news I had here [link] , but I AM spreading the word about this as best I can. My own sweetie was just complemented today for being a quiet dog on her walk that didn't just bark at stuff. She is rarely offensive when she sees another dog--the other party always starts with her and she stares at them while they yap and bark.

Beautiful shot! That is one really good looking dog - love those EARS.

I don't donate to the HSUS or to PETA for exactly the reason you said. I only donate to groups I know are all-breed friendly when donating to groups that help dogs.

Thanks for spreading the word although that story is just awful

Thanks! I'm a big fan of the Lucydog as well, but I am obviously biased, since she's mine!

It's great to hear you don't support the HSUS or PeTA.

Yes, the story is heartbreaking, and it was hard for me to read about it as well. The only way we are going to be able to stop what the HSUS and PeTA are doing is to spread the word and hope that the truth reaches as many ears, hearts and minds as possible. So many well-meaning but uninformed people support these orgs, and I have to wonder how that would change if they only knew what PeTA and the HSUS are really up to.

I agree entirely.

I tell people whenever I can although carefully so they don't take offense. It's nice that people want to help but you really have to research before donating to charities.
