This is wonderful.
You are a lovely sculptor.
If you can with this medium, it should be painted. It would be awesome!

Thank you!

This was made with plasticine, which can't really be painted. I could have made a mold and cast the bust in resin and then painted that, but he was recycled last night back into the clay pile. I may attempt him again, though, see if I can do a better job of capturing the awesomeness and character in *missmonster 's painting.

Thanks, Randy! Yes, it was really fun to sculpt this, and fun to use a clay that I really couldn't refine too much.

That's cool that you are pushing yourself.
I need to do that more myself...
I meant to tell you that I loved that Tapir as well...
They actually have an alien or monster look as well...Lol
Take care

Thanks again, and thanks for saying that about the Tapir sculpt; I'm glad you like it as well.

And you're right, they really do look otherworldly or monster-ish. I love odd-looking animals, though--they're often really interesting subjects for art, maybe even moreso than the prettier animals.

You bet!
yes, the odd looking creatures are my favorites...
I love vultures especially...

Yes, I seem to remember your fondness for vultures. I must admit, I love them too, both old world and new world vultures, and my personal favorite is this species: [link]

They're so outlandish! Nature is so inspiring, isn't it?

Is that a King Vulture?
What a cool image...thanks for that link...

My other passion besides vultures and fish is insects.
I love how crazy those things can look.
My next project is going to be some funky insects to hang on the wall.

Have a great weekend Rachel!
Take care

Yep, that is indeed a King Vulture. I remember the first time I saw a photo of one (it was in a Ranger Rick magazine, I think), and it was probably that species that started my love for all things vulture.

You're an insect fan as well? Very cool! I'm sure you've seen *Blepharopsis ' gallery, yes?

That reminds me: I started a 16-week beginning jewelry class this past Monday and I think I am definitely going to be doing some insect-inspired designs, because I find them to be truly fascinating. I think some of the beetle species would really lend themselves well to metal-work because the patterns on their carapaces are so striking.

I bought this book a while back for inspiration and reference and it sounds like you might enjoy it as much as I have: [link]
It's truly a lovely book, and the photographs are really wonderful.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing what you come up with for your next project!
