I think your manes/tails in this are absolutely amazing! But the tail of the white horse is a little blocky. What I would do is on the base layer and with the base layer add more strands with a 2-3 px brush... And with the black horse's blending I would maybe use a soft eraser and erase some of the hooves, to make it look more blended. Other than that its a wonderful peice, amazing job!

Well, for example, maybe try preserving as much of the original mane and tail as you can and then mimicking how the light behaves on the original. Just as practise? Good on you for working to improve.
