Thank you for the feedback. In Sumatra where these tigers are native, the people are not as educated as those in "first world nations." Many do recognize the prestige and beauty of the tiger, but see them only as vicious predators that need to be eliminated.
Then there are black-market traders who spend vast amounts of time poaching what tigers remain for the fur and medical trade. A great deal of medicinal tiger products are still used in Asia, and western science has proven that these "products" have no effect at all.
Habitat loss and human encroachment have lead to overlapping habitats for both humans and tigers. Natural prey are decimated in areas where tigers hunt and live, so they have begun to actively hunt human prey along with domesticated animals. I suppose they really don't have the ability to want to protect an animal that often threatens their life. There's reason for killing human-aggressive tigers that enter villages to hunt on a regular basis... But of course this wouldn't be an issue if man didn't first step out of his boundaries and into the tiger's habitat, start cutting down trees for agriculture, and act surprised when the tigers fought back for lack of habitat and natural prey.
I side with you on this matter. It's really a tragedy in the natural world- education and conservation are about the best we can do. Cheers!
