It's so cool that someone so young can be inspired by a movie that came out before they were born!

I have been watching horror movies since I was about 12 (By today's standards tame, "Hammer House of Horror" types) but John Carpenter's "The Thing" was truly the first film to scare me. There I was, about 18 years old, and the suspense left me feeling isolated in a packed cinema screening! It deserved to have done much better than it did, but from memory, everyone else was into the friendly alien ET at that time. I watched the remake about a year ago, wanting to love it too, but maybe time and my perspective has changed me too much. I really like that the movies have inspired you though. It shows that good movies still have power, even if they are a little dated after 30 years Thank-you and thank-you John Carpenter! (Not forgetting, Rob Bottin who almost had a meltdown creating those fantastic effects)

alot of hard work was done to create these films, I loved both, i didnt really get into the first one though from 1951 (the thing from another world)

but nothing beats the 1983 version thank you for your support!

Amazing! The details are absolutely beautiful, and your shadows are dramatic and really add to the eeriness of this piece. The cross-hatching is done with a steady hand as well, and the lines are clean and smooth.

Frankly, I can't think of a thing to change! I might personally make the contrast a little deeper by making the highlighted parts on the right side of his face a bit lighter, but other than that...great work!

I admit that i never saw the movie, but this picture gives me the feeling that i missed out on something. I love it. The left half of the face could look almost normal if there wouldn't be pain and sorrow in the expression of the downcast eye. The right half looks a bit like a demon or some japanese monster (oni?), something straight from a nightmare. The face looks as if it's mutating, but also a bit as if it's cracking apart. Philosophical, the question could be which part is the part mutating, which is the 'original' part? But yeah. Beautifully done.

theres 3 films - 'the thing_from another world 1951' then there was a 'the thing 1982' then 'the thing 2011' all good in their own format but theres alot to learn from old movies and also when creating artworks you can put your own story into them

I like old movies, especially science fiction and horror. They didn't have as much technology or money to produce those movies, so there was alot done through craft and masks and things like that. Which is amusing at a first glance - and not always really scarry - but impressive all the same if you think how much work has been put into it. And if a movie is redone so often I think it must be interesting to watch it change! I look forward to seeing it.

in the thing, the monsters are machines covered in silicone so very hands on, you should check it out now, go to google, write 'the thing' click on 'videos' (search tools) - any duration, click 20+ min,  look for the videobash link and there you are
