Cordillera Kars In His Kango: riazana.deviantart.com/art/Cor…

Habol sa Buwan ng Wika! Most of my Filipino Jojo art's been post-colonization. Time for indigenous & pre-colonial inspiration!

The Cordilleras are up north of Luzon Island in my country. Several ethnolinguistic groups inhabit it including but not limited to the Kalinga, Ibaloi &Kankana-ey. The bahag or loincloth is traditional wear for the men but some natives wear it to this day especially during occasions like election day. In the cities, some migrant students even wear them to grad ceremony under their togas! The tikam is a belt where the main adornment is an engraved gold-lipped oyster secured by a coconut disc. (Plus points if a pearls' fused to the shell!) Bontoc men wear the tikam as a status symbol. However, both sexes wear the ling ling-o fertility symbol which can be either a pendant or earring.

Tattoos: Centipedes & snakes are a common theme for protection or likening the warrior to these predators.
-Gayaman nan banas-  centipede-eating lizard is a mythical story of the warriors, taking “prey” or the “enemy’s head
-Gulot- wrists & forearms lined with binulibud: three parallel lines; mark of a headhunter
-Binakuko- upper arm crisscross symbolizing paths that the warrior crossed during the many expeditions
-Biking- chest tattoos of a warrior
-Bituwon & gayaman- star & centipede where the star gives light to the path of warriors
-Pinaparting- (barely seen here but tattooed on Kars' sides) consists of khaman: headaxe noting warrior status & parting: sets of 3 parallel lines for every village the warrior fought in. (Kars doesn't have this 3rd element but putting here anyway: pinipingao: bird of good fortune)
