Amazing sketch, when I see documentaries it always stuns me that no one brings up Bosch's heaven and hell painting because through they might be old style they are really creep and dark in a way other hell paintings are not and the vore stuff in them is off the scale.

Thanks! Bosch was really cool... it's silly to imagine that his depictions were actual visions meant to entice fear more than anything, and then there's me and I'm like "...dude, that bird guy looks AWESOME." Of course there's a lot of symbolism behind all it but I just really like the creature designs for what they are. It's a refreshing take on the vision of hell, especially in this age.

Its interesting you say about the deceptions of fear, because churches in medieval times purposely put up images of demons raping men and women on the church front as a way to keep the flock where they wanted them. We view these carvings now as really bad taste as thy mirror the dark side of the church we'd rather forget, but to these people they really instilled a sense of real fear that you didn't be a good flock member and do as you were told by church this was what your afterlife was going to be all about, I think when people in the 16th century saw Bosch’s works I think they must have had the same crippling fear. Its funny because I want Hollywood to show a depiction of Bosch’s hell in CGI because I think if it was made more realistic I think it would really terrify, movies like Constantine though brilliant are to reliant on gross out effects for demons but in reality I think a demon wouldn't need to have half its brains showing to scare you, because the idea of some of Bosch’s warped creations would instil that same fear right of the bat for being so different and other worldly. Also other worldly creations tend to stick much better than common deceptions, you can see that in all of those people who grew up on 80's movies like The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Legend, The Thing, Gremlins, the monsters were so unforgettable and most are now pop culture icons.Β

I would indeed love to see Bosch's works in cgi! It's definitely got a thing going on that instills fear... I guess I'm just one of those weirdos who loves creepy stuff. I don't really know much about religion since I'm agnostic but while I do love reading up on it and especially in older times, there is indeed a large case of values dissionance with the actions depicted. Seems the church was, quite literally, hell-bound to make people behave in the way they thought they should.

It's weird, as much as I love creepy monsters I've yet to see those movies. I really love animatronics and puppets in film so I need to remind myself to give them a watch sometime.

If you love creepy monsters you must watch those movies, 80's movies are full of weird likeable monsters. Also check out horror films like Aliens, Alien, predator and predator 2, and pumpkinhead, gremlins, gremlins 2. Oh and Critters and if you can handle it with out laughing Ghoulies 2. Don't watch the first Ghoulies movie unless your drunk...sadly its that bad its only made better when your drunk. There is also the Hellraiser series, but that more human body horror.

Not really in to religion myself ether but I do enjoy reading about ancient history and mythology and it kind of came up when I was looking in to the story of the devil and how his image changed through history and it became more frightening and monster like. You right though the chunrch really was about keeping people in line, its kind of sad as in the ancient god and goddess times people were much more free region wise and were not punished for sexuality having sex or having an open view point, though I feel thats slowly coming back in our time.
