"Quickly Quickly! A little further!"Ā
What are they saying?! What do they want? She just wants to go home! Why won't her feelers activate? Why can't she smell her magic? Everything feels so wrong and she can't take a moment to just figure it out. Hiding in the mushrooms might work.
"A little further! By the mushrooms!"
Her lungs burnt with the suns of the desert she only heard in stories. She longed for her comfy bed and old friends she read them with. Each beat of her racing heart threatened itself in her throat as she struggled to tell where they'd come next.
"Hey. Hey-"
Another! They won't quit!
"WAIT! We want to help you!"
Their language was guttural and foreign. Why didn't they speak her language?! Just how far did she go?!
Another one, dead ahead. This time instinct took over.
"Kid! Kid!"
Three sets of limbs, two trying to grab her. First one, miss. Second one, miss! Third one, a snap to the haunches!
"Ow!"
The one thing she could understand was the cry of pain. Her small teeth couldn't even sink past the mouthful of fur, but she could only hope the surprise would stave off the chase.
It's no use. Even after the night resting, it's taken so much energy to put off these near giants. Nothing she had could even remotely protect her. She could feel herself fading.
"Someone grab a blanket."
"Everyone try to speak softly."
"Hey. Can you understand us?"
"Hey. Hey Kid!"
