Description

You know Amini might've been more likely to help if Kai hadn't wrote 'poo' on her tail feathers while they were playing in the clay. Poo is the only word she knows how to spell since she learned it from a few certain other Grandesque youths. The adults didn't particularly find it funny and kicked them out quick. The girls then preceded to make a beautiful sand sculpture of Queen Titania and eat some eggs until an unfriendly sea turtle showed up.

So I finished half on this the day they announced the partners, then I slowed down after that since I forgot where I was going with this c: And depending on your screen you may or may not be able to see details. I could see everything fine on the mac but not on the pc *shrug* either way you can download it. I'm trying to finish all art stuff before school starts Oh and obviously I was too lazy/tired/whatever to add background gryphons, shame on me.

Hey. Critique for
I really like this scene. It has a nice and humorous feel. I like the story that you've told along with it.
The characters look very well drawn and I love their designs, especially Amini's. I like how you drew feathers on her chest and fur on the rest of her body. Their anatomy looks perfect to me, as does that very cute turtle.
That background! Wow, it's amazing. I love how you've included so many colours, especially in the sunset. The cliff face looks great and has a very good texture to it. The waterfall looks a bit strange. I should be flowing straight down the cliff, not gushing out as it is. The reflection of the sun on the sea is very good.
I really like this drawing. It has a lovely warm feeling to it.

Hello there from a #FeedbackFrenzy participant!

This is such a colorful and lighthearted image, the characters all have very expressive faces and poses that fit the scene and bring life to the image. The detail in the image, especially the texture of the sand, is impressive. For a critique, I think the lighting in the scene is the biggest drawback. The character's don't feel to me like they're in the same space as the background because they lack the intense shadows that are being cast across the sand. You can exaggerate the reflected light bouncing onto them and illuminating their forms, but they need dark core shadows at least. I wonder if you chose to lighten them simply because with this lighting set-up, the characters would be mostly dark from this angle. If that's the case, then it would be best to move the light source and light them more from a frontal three-quarter view so the characters are more illuminated. But overall it's a wonderful image and very well done!

I'm critiquing for #FeedbackFrenzy

This is an adorable picture. The concept is amusing and made me chuckle. The sky looks nice (especially the sunset (sunrise?)) and the detail on the turtle are realistic. As far as anatomy goes, everything looks pretty good to me.

The shading needs a little bit of work. The shading on the laughing gryphon is more detailed than on the other gryphon, and based on the position of the sun, I think the shadows on the sand should be a bit longer. The shading on the cliffs looks good, until patch on the left. It looks like it lost some depth compared to the rest of the rocks. Also, the turtle has a more realistic look while the gryphons have a more cartoony look. While I do love the turtle, it does look slightly out of place (unless that's what you were going for).

Overall I really liked this picture. It was whimsical and made me smile.

Yo- #FeedbackFrenzy brought me 'ere!

This is adorable. I really love the character interactions, the expressions are so playful and full of personality. I also like the silhouette of the gryphon in the background, gives this environment a sense of depth.

The light sources are a little all over the place though- the shadows from the rocks on the water look too long to be realistic, it took a while for me to notice where they were coming from. The darkness on the left side of the cliff vs the brightness on the right side doesn't make a lot of sense to me either, the left side cliff would still be fairly bright even if not as bright.

The characters also look shaded entirely differently from each other. The one being bitten by the turtle (Kai?) has less depth in her shadows than on the laughing one (I assume that's Amini...I feel terrible when I don't know people's characters names lol. :<) and also she has less detailed highlights. The turtle looks different again, I suppose it's because it appears to have lines while the other two don't, so not as much as a shading issue as it is style.

The last thing I want to note is the highlights on the water- they come a bit too far forward if the sun is on the horizon we see. If the sun is on the horizon BEHIND the turtle, the highlights would come up further towards the viewer, even reflecting on the turtle a little bit. I would advise also look up references for the way water reflects light too, the 'pattern' of it doesn't look realistically water-like (I HATE saying the ref thing because it seems lazy, but I suck at water lighting so I can't really give any solid advice on technique.)

Overall I really love the vibrancy in the characters and their environment. You've created a scene with life to it, and the characters feel easy to relate to just because you've depicted them that well. I really adore the texture and detailing of the cliffs, they're so three dimensional and solid looking. The way you shaded with blues and yellows gives this a lot of value depth which is wonderful- it's so common to see people shading in black and white.

I like The clouds also, they're beautiful. And the white parts of the water, it really depicts the movement of the water well. Awesome work dude! I hope that was helpful. <3

It's cool how you captured the sunset with those long shadows instead of painting the actual sun. Nice touch!

So pretty, I love the details on the feathers and the turtle's scales. The sandy texture you used on the background is also a nice touch. Now I'm gonna feel bad if I don't turn in something as nice as that XD.

Also, I love how you got all those feather's on Amini's breast. They're so poofy! The way you colored the clouds in the bg is lovely. Purple with pink-ish highlights.

Waterfall probably would have flowed down more against the cliff than you have it. Love the details on the cracked eggs. The sea turtle also looks well done, I like the scales on it's flipper thing and the way you did the lip of it's shell. I like how you have the shadows very long, but the shadow on Kailani is much shorter than the ones coming from the rocks in the sea, making their shadows shorter, or them taller would look better in my opinion. All in all, for me it's hard to tell distance in this picture, even with the gryphon in the bg.

rice-chex In reply to Elephantfreak [2011-08-12 02:49:48 +0000 UTC]

true to all. for the shadow though I moved kai up in the picture, then her wings blocked out the rocks so I had to reposition them even though I didn't shorten the shadow. poo on me for that, but all is easy to fix. Except for the distance, I was thinking that before I submitted it, then I was oh welllllll. haha yup

Well, that explains it, it's fun to know why things are a certain way in art~ Makes it more original and interesting! Yeah, distance is really hard. I have trouble with it too.
