These images were taken on September 11, 2001, a day of ill omen. A few days later my wife and I attended a Requiem Mass in the cathedral for the victims of the attack in NYC. it was a profoundly beautiful and moving experience that helped to lift some of the grief we were feeling in that terrible time (this was the only Mass that I've attended in my life). The interior was an enormous work of art, one of the most extraordinary places that I've experienced. I understand that most of the art works and furnishing were removed before sustaining irreparable harm.
