divisions that are deep are sometimes called fault lines.

between the tribes

fault lines and tribes, yes - one of the most common uses of the word "tribes" in english is "warring tribes"...

the scrap is from an old map when things were even more tribal than now

i know - who knew 2013 would be like this!

speaking of that - sort of - i saw in the news a Lebanese couple is trying to have their civil marriage upheld although the Interior Minister says it can't be, only religious marriages are legal. but they are supported by some officials. it's very interesting - and they are a brave couple.

oh, i'm very excited about this. it's been years we're demanding it, and i signed petitions, and so many others did.
i hope this symbolic act helps moving things in the good direction.
if not, their children will be considered illegal.

we're still in the stone ages

that is good to hear - the popular support i mean. i saw in the story the support of an MP and others - and also how seemingly complicated legally it all is.

how did our various religions and sects turn into tools of oppression? when religion should be for human good?

well, i know how - i just wish it were otherwise.

the hypocrite thing is you can go marry outside Lebanon, and come and register it here without a problem. (people usually go to Cyprus) specially in mixed marriages when they don't want to change one's to "suit" the other.

it's not even religious anymore, it's just a stupid law they are afraid of changing. politics always go well with religion.

ah - that is one of those things that is hypocritical and clever at the same time.

and yes, that is what happens. people who don't want change point at religion as not allowing it when they really couldn't care less about religion itself.
