The flowers have both interesting shadow/texture and contrast with the surrounding green. Nice border too.

I like the subject matter but execution could use tweaking. The lighting is a bit flat and dull, the shadows are rather boring, if you were to shoot this at a different time of the day, possibly near sunset on a sunny day the lighting would be greatly improved. The colours as a result of the lighting are also rather bland, they would look better with warmer tones which would also complement the red in the flowers. One more thing would be to use a much shallower depth of field as the background and bokeh created by using such a small focal length is distracting, your using a good size aperture but instead of merely getting close to a subject, use the cameras zoom (if possible). Again i think this shot could have potential

Agreed on the lighting; I took this on an overcast mid-day, but waiting around wasn't an option (these aren't the rarest of flowers though so I could find new ones). Will keep the other stuff in mind next time. Thanks!
