I was introduced to Firestorm the same way you were -- well, both the cartoon and the Super Powers toy line, but they were at the same time. I think Firestorm's non-dorkiness was helped out a lot by the fact that by that time, they were giving the heroes actual villains to fight in the cartoon, and actual plots to resolve. The early series of Superfriends were pretty goofy (fun, but goofy); but I'd put the last two series, particularly Galactic Guardians, up there with Justice League.

Yeah, the early Super Friends cartoon was very corny. It got much much better when they started Challenge of the Super Friends and then Galactic Guardians. Still, since I was young back then, I thought it was the coolest thing on TV, lol.

I remember when Firestorm came out in the 70's. I think I bought every issue of that short-lived series, but didn't see much of the back-ups in Flash. I remember when he got added to the Super Friends too. I thought that was so cool! I was also excited when Cyborg joined the Super Friends as well!
Excellent piece!
