Description My graphite drawing of Godzilla. I was inspired to draw him after watching the Epic Giant Monster movie Pacific Rim. Took a little bit more time then I was anticipating because of all the scales and spikes I had to put in. Hope they make a sequel of Pacific Rim with a cameo of the big lizard himself.

Thank you so much especially since it's coming from someone with a dragon on their profile picture

I like how accurate the perspective of each scale is

Laos it's so detailed!

Are you planning to ink/paint/color this? I think that would be cool!

Maybe....I want to paint it and add shading, but I need to get a tablet first, but I can't afford one.

Well you can try to torture yourself by painting with a mouse .... I'm half kidding though
When I didn't have a tablet I painted with the mouse but each artwork took like a week to finish.

You can try vectoring though.

If you really like a tablet go look for a second hand wacom. It'll be used but it'll still be good

This is not bad at all. I really like how accurate you have been with your pencil. Looks really nice! The only advice I would give to you is to line it up with marker pens, and then maybe start to shade your drawing so it get shades. That will make Godzilla more 3 dimensional. But that is it. Great job!

Yeah I wanted to do the same thing, but I'm kind of afraid to mess it up by inking one spot too long or slipping lol. I was thinking about getting a tablet and then inking it with something like photoshop or adobe illustrator and then adding shading using it. Do you know of any easy way to ink a drawing after scanning it with photoshop or illustrator using a mouse. I only have that right now....can't really a afford a tablet yet.

Well I do have a suggestion. When it is a sunny day take your draw up against the window. Then cover your drawing with a blank piece of paper, and voila: You should now be able to look through so you can use marker pens without ruining your original drawing That is the best advice I can give to you at the moment

You hit the nail on the head lol. The spikes were definitely hard. I didn't want to just draw triangles after triangles after triangles...I wanted them to really look like menacing spikes so they had to be different

YaensArt [2013-10-09 12:58:58 +0000 UTC]

That's pretty cool, I like the style of your lines. They create interesting patterns as they form into one greater meaning (which would be Godzilla). Also, I'd love to see this shaded and maybe with a background. That would probably make it look even better. It's already a really neat design though

Yeah I want to outline it and color and shade it comic book style on Photoshop, but I don't know how to do that. Do you know of any good tutorials for a beginner in Photoshop on how to outline a drawing and also how to shade.

fc07.deviantart.net/fs10/f/200… This one's pretty good, I think. For shading, there are so many different styles so there are plenty of tutorials that represent a great variety of different styles. You might look for cell shading tutorials www.deviantart.com/resources/?… try this maybe? Hope this helps. Tell me if you can work with these, I'd love to see the result

Thank you!!!!! I am thinking about it...do you know of any easy way to trace the outline of the drawing on photoshop. All that I know how to do is up the threshold so that the lines are dark, but they still have this sketchy feel to them. Also I mentioned in my comment on your drawing if you know of any tutorials for shadowing and shading on Photoshop like real beginner stuff.

bdec [2013-10-08 19:57:04 +0000 UTC]

Actually, the main problem I see here is what we call "All over patern". Β It means you put too much details everywhere and it is not te best way to keep the eye in the picture. Β Try something : Make the outlines with bigger stroke and, then, the details with smaller strokes.

Also, something that could help would to add some greys shades. Β For example, if your Godzilla was shaded with a 20% grey and the background was still white, you would get an interesting effect! Β

I hope I helped a bit!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RichLim89 In reply to bdec [2013-10-08 21:34:34 +0000 UTC]

Ohh yeah I understand. Different strokes can give off shadow areas or put more emphasis on one area then the next. Right now the drawing is just a line drawing...I'm still learning photoshop so once I get really good at it I'll probably revisit this drawing as well as a couple others and add in shading and color. For a line drawing do you think it's good?

O.O this is really good, all the details like the spikes and scaly body make him look really powerful

Still have yet to see pacific rim, it looks so cool

Yeah I remember in the old Godzilla movies that his hard shell and scales protected him when other monster attacked or scratched him and just like any other reptile he has those scales on the under side of his belly Yeah you should check it out!!!!! I heard they plan to add Godzilla as one of the monsters the robots fight in the sequel. Trust me you'll love it....it has everything from action, great visuals and monsters and romance too with a touch of drama.

RichLim89 In reply to Brushado [2013-10-10 23:18:37 +0000 UTC]

Ahaha well their is going to be a sequel and they are throwing around the idea of big G being in it. I don't know how serious it would be. Maybe he could be an enemy of the Jager at the beginning like they Jager fighters just disovered him and don't know which side he's on and then toward the end Godzilla teams up with them to fight whatever monster i the real enemy.

Hehe maybe...if I can find a good tutorial that can teach me how to use Photoshop and add things like shading and color then I would. I never used Photoshop before to actually finish a drawing just Charcoal or Graphite in real life.

verticalcity In reply to RichLim89 [2013-10-08 20:17:28 +0000 UTC]

It's not that hard, you just need to put in a lot of time.

LadyKuki [2013-10-08 16:07:21 +0000 UTC]

Awww... I actually think it's kind of cute. XD

Good job on the detailing and everything! However, I think it's time you start coloring things in your gallery. While I do see your potential, it would be best if you could make your pics more presentable by lighting them up a bit, and by adding more color. 'Tis just a suggestion. You don't have to listen to me if you don't want to!
