Sorry this took so long! I use 3D models to keep backgrounds quick and more-or-less consistent, and so had to build the Jones' house from the ground up.

Just so there's no misunderstanding, even growing up I've never felt comfortable stepping into a house that looked like this. Like, there's devout, and then there's ensuring nobody can question that devotion. Even if it's sincere there's always a feeling of one-upsmanship, a declaration of how much you've purged ALL other interests from your life.

Rick, I'm dying over here. This is too funny. She even has the tea cups with the names and the crosses on it.

As a believer, these houses still creep me out, in a Silent Hill-esq way.

Having The Lord integrated into every part of your life is one thing, taking it to Pharisee levels of pushing it into other people's faces quite another. I think I can agree with ya there, Rick. Wow. XD

You know, funny thing, I once went to my Sunday-School teachers football party {not much into football just thought I'd be fun}, his ENTIRE kitchen was covered in Pillsbury Doughboy merch, like the level seen in this comic, only more 'tummy tickles'. Lol

Yikes. I'm religious, and live in a predominately religious community that's proud of it...and even I haven't seen a place that is quite that...in your face about it.

Just leave a symbol on the mantle, and a book on the coffee table. Sounds like enough right?

This is going to get interesting.

I have a massive christian family and not one house (or appartment) I been in had this much Jesus stuff. I personally would be amazed and scope out a neat item I might like to have in my house. But I can understand, having a guess over with a house like this can make them feel unconformable, Its like walking into a jewish house but in a christian version. Something must happened in her life to make her really to be into God

The sincerely devout don't need to show it off, methinks.Β  Those who flout it are more interested in showing off than in being truly devout.Β  But call them out on it, and they get nasty.Β  The truly devout would simply nod and agree that it sure seems like it sometimes.

I'd think she's likely to be the more show-offy "devout" than he is.Β  Unless I'm being ignorant (not hard to do), it's seemed to me that it's the women who enjoy decoratively showing off than men do.Β  Menfolk tend to prefer less social and more physically injurious means.

you saying even that they look it, they don't show it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CyberCorn-Entropic In reply to Kyuubi-Amaterasu [2015-10-27 17:03:44 +0000 UTC]

Pretty much.Β  It's like displays of power or high school coolness.Β  Those who are secure in either don't need to indulge in displaying it any more than is necessary.Β  Those who display it wantonly are generally more interested in appearances than sincerity.Β  Because the latter tend to be less secure in their power or coolness than the former, they can be more vicious and ruthless in defending what power and coolness they do have if they're confronted.

Yeah, I could never understand that. While it's not my position to criticize it, I find it pretty... creppy. Even as a faithful person.

CyberCorn-Entropic In reply to TorisChrusade [2015-10-27 17:07:10 +0000 UTC]

Maybe it's because this veers dangerously close to idolatry?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TorisChrusade In reply to CyberCorn-Entropic [2015-10-27 18:21:42 +0000 UTC]

What's idolatry?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CyberCorn-Entropic In reply to TorisChrusade [2015-10-28 02:01:13 +0000 UTC]

Simply put, the worship of graven images.Β  It's treating the representation of something sacred as being more important than the something itself.Β  As an example, Muslims don't approve of depictions of the Prophet Mohammad because they consider such depictions to be idolatry.Β  Muslims believe they're supposed to be contemplating Mohammad's teachings of Allah instead of pictures of Mohammad himself.Β  As another example, the golden calf incident that mashed Moses' berserk button at Mount Sinai was a pretty blatant example of idolatry.

Wow. I know some pious relatives, and their house is bare compared to this. But yeah, there's no reason to actually show off one's devotion by one-upping others. That was a problem the Pharisees had, and it's one that never went away.
