Edit: 4th Sept 2019It has been brought to my attention that my work here is very similar to that of another Deviant artist, Wesley Souza.
And I have to admit, the two are incredibly similar.
I hadn't seen Wesley's work prior to creating mine and this is totally coincidental, but they really are very alike.

I didn't give any credit for inspiration because I hadn't seen your work. If I had seen it, I would have done something different.
I admit, the similarity is uncanny but I can assure you, purely coincidental.

It is the same stock, concept and composition, it does not seem coincidence in something so similar.

To be honest Wesley, if I was in your position, I would feel the same.
I have to say, seeing your work has left me very disappointed and a little deflated.
I am still relatively new to Photomanipulation. I only really started at the back end of last year. But with each tutorial I watch and each technique I learn, I feel that I am improving.
When I finished this mermaid I was REALLY happy with it. I saw it as possibly the best thing I'd done so far. Now, after seeing your post, the shine has completely been taken off of it. It has gone from a piece I really liked, to something quite meaningless now.
I have no problem with people finding inspiration in other peoples work. However, if I had seen your work (or anyone else's) and drawn inspiration from it, I would then have put my own spin on it. I would not have put out something practically the same.
I have a weird feeling right now. I almost feel like I should be apologising when I have nothing to apologise for.
I totally understand why you feel the way you do, but again, I say with all honesty, I did not see your work before creating mine.
It is all very disappointing.

I can't tell you how amazed I was at the similarity. I really hadn't seen Wesleys work before yesterday. As I said, I'm actually genuinely disapointedthat mine has turned out not to be that original!!!
