YxY Fanfiction in a nutshell 2 - [link]I love reading YGO fanfiction and I love it that there's so many of them! But the problem I come across, is that they tend to be rather alike.
And the main enemy is Anzu/Tea. Every story needs an antagonist, but... Tea? The friendship freak? Oh yeah, makes perfect sense!
So yeah, I wanted to make a little bit of fun about fanfiction. There's no personal grudge to anyone and I apologize to anyone who gets offended! I still love YGO stories! This is just something I had to get out!
Also, I apologize for the bad art. I'm a lazy mother f*cker. D:

So true! XD That was hilarious! The second to last panel made me lose it o3o Ahahahahaha, Yami's expression! It's a shame most fanfics are like this. There's not really a good excuse to make Anzu so evil and OOC, besides, why the heck would she randomly hate Yuugi? Yes, she can be annoying at times, but she is also a strong character, and has her golden moments, just like everyone else. I don't like Revolutionshipping, at all, but I just choose to ship Anzu with others instead of making her a bitch. And as for Peachshipping... I'll tolerate it more in situations before and after Yamia, like season 0. Fanfics also seem an insult to Yuugi a lot of the time... 'Innocent'? He isn't. And the phrase 'Hikari' is thrown around like it's canon, but that is NOT one of Yami's nicknames for Yuugi. He's also not suicidal. Damn our fandom. But at least there's SOME golden stories out there, and kudos to people who make this clichΓ© plot seem tolerable!

I don't mind these stories most of the time, but I would be lying if it didn't get on my nerves every now and then... Everyone is free to write whatever they want and how they want, but if there really isn't any originality there, it kind of sucks out the interest from the audience.
I sometimes write Anzu as a meanie, but I try my best to have her redeem herself at the end. In future stories, I try to avoid that, though. It's something I really hate in stories, yet I resort to using it myself! =/
Usually, I like to imagine Yuugi as an innocent being, but I can't write him like that at all. The best I can do, is to not have him swear. Other than that, he seems to kick ass in those so-called action-filled stories I write (one thing he probably wouldn't really be able to do).
But yeah, the fandom throws some really weird shit at times, but hey, people are different. Some people like that, some don't, so we better just look away and find something else we like. There's something for everyone, thank Kami for that. :'D

Yeah... I didn't used to mind it at first; when I'd only just finished the manga I was an Anzu-basher, I hated how she always drew attention to herself and was moping over Yuugi and Yami all the time, but after a while I just got tired of it; using a jealous girl as the main plot deice and antagonist seems a little... Daft. Well, when they take it over the top, mostly, but still... Although I've read a few crackfics that have really quite hilarious Anzu-bashing. But the fact that I got tired of it let me see some of her better qualities, too, and I honestly don't mind her as a character anymore.
I was once reading someone's fanfic and she started off okay, but then the author basically said 'I've been reading fanfics and they made me hate Anzu, so she's now gonna be bashed!' and I began to lose interest, but decided to be nice and read it all anyway. But after a few of her fics I noticed a change; she wrote another with Anzu bashing, but then later in the fic she redeemed herself, saying sorry to Yuugi and that he was her best friend, that she'd been a bitch and she regretted it, and then she got freaking SHOT. And then Honda ran over all upset and it turned out they had fallen in love stand then Yuugi saved her, pointed out Honda and told her she was loved... I couldn't stop squealing for ages; I LOVE that pairing. So yeah, your point about redeeming her... When Anzu bashing's done like that, it's tolerable, and I actually kinda like it, because her redemption can be so heartwarming!
Ahaha... XD I don't see him as super innocent (I mean, in the manga he watched porn! o.o), I often make him swear as he sometimes does that in the manga, too, but I still get what you mean about him being innocent. I mean, he's supposed to hate violence and all of that and strikes me as the kind of guy who wouldn't condone killing no matter what someone had done, (Although it's fun to imagine him totally kicking someone's butt and then leaving them super shocked as he attacks them XD) By the way, can you link me to any of your stories? I wanna read 'em! XD
That's the best bit about the fandom, I guess. No matter what someone wants to read, there's something for it, and if there isn't, they can write it. Everyone in the fandom seems to get really random and super weird plot bunnies at odd times... I know I do! XD

Ooh, I've read that one! The Devotionshipping and Puzzleshipping one? Jou was an ass in that story, but it was nice that Anzu finally made him see common sense. I also used to like Anzu bashing, but it hadn't been long since I'd read the manga and I was still mad at Anzu for the theme park incident :I I preferred how that played out in the S0 anime; it was an accident in that rather than doing it on purpose like in the manga, even if she DID pretend to drown in the anime.
It was a vampire fic (Not actually a huge fan of them but this one just WORKED... Mostly, except for some weird thing the writer added about their ears), so after she was shot Yuugi changed her so she could live. It was really sweet when she ended up getting with Honda, he was heartbroken when she was shot Q_Q
Ah... THAT kind of innocence I TOTALLY agree with. It just annoys me when I find fics where he's confused when they talk about sex, and things like that. But really... I don't think he'd ever want to hurt anyone... Well actually, more like I don't think he'd ever think of ACTING on such thoughts. One of my headcanons is that in season 0, Yami sees himself literally as Yuugi, but another side of him who ISN'T free of such burdens, but still doesn't see the boundary between his thoughts and Yuugi's, which is why he acts a little more attached to Anzu in in that season despite later showing no interest in her romantically, I mean, he doesΒ call her a sleeping beauty in the ending of the false prophet chapter of the manga. But anyway, I think the shadow games he plays at the start are a reflection of Yuugi's bad thoughts, that Yuugi thinks them up in the darkest corners of his mind, but Yami knows Yuugi would never act on some of those things because he's so kind and innocent, so he chooses to act on them instead; he has practically NO conscience at that point. I dunno, I just like that theory. XD
I love the idea that he can kick ass when he wants to... XD

Oooh, you mean THAT incident... Yeah, I had trouble going through that. She was such an idiot in that part and it kind of annoyed me. In general, I hate female characters for being the cheerleader in the background, who gets kidnapped every now and then to keep the relationship with her and the main character alive. Sometimes, it feels like that's all it is. Anzu is not a completely useless character, but she leaves me very unimpressed most of the time. :') It's one of those things where I sort of like hating her, but I also like to praise her. Needless to say that the Abridged series gives me strange pleasure in that department.
(Haha, I know what you mean. What about their ears though, I'm curious) Aww, that is very sweet~ :3 Anzu and Honda pairing is something I've been pondering for some time. Not fully sure yet how I feel about that one... XD
Well, it's one of those things people like. And to be honest, not everyone was able to read the manga. I think a lot of people just saw the 4Kids version of the show, and you probably know how incredible that was. :') And that is something I haven't actually thought of... o.o That Yami doesn't see himself apart from Yuugi and all that. It makes A LOT more sense now, to be honest. Oh man, thank you so much for that! And yes, I do agree with you on it. :3
Haha, me too! I've had so many ideas for such stories where Yuugi kicks even more ass than Yami does, but who knows if they will ever be written down... XD
That's quite fine~ I have such a bad memory over everything, so I don't mind people forgetting me a little on the side. :'D Still, I'm very flattered that you have read some of those silly stories~ I do try to improve in writing, so it means a lot to me if they're actually readable. I was apparently awful at it in middle school; not just in English, but creating stories in general. :')
And speaking of stories, I will go through yours at some point, too. I'm just so lazy when it comes to reading, but I will definitely see more from you~

I know what you mean there; I can't decide what I think about Anzu in YGOTAS. Tea is extremely annoying, but she's supposed to be like that, and it still wouldn't be the same without her in it... x3 And Anzu DOES bug me; she seems to just shout 'Yuugi!" every two seconds, not to mention that halfway through the ceremonial duel she pulled a Bella and sat there trying to decide who she liked more so she knew who to support... That part irritated me, it's supposed to be a heartfelt and devastating time for both Yami and Yuugi, and here she is trying to pick who she fancies more. :/
(I dunno, it was this weird thing where they had really long ears that could grow out and retract sometimes... It was super weird and I tried to ignore that part o.O) I love that pairing, mainly because neither of them get that much character development, and they could be rather cute together. Besides, pairing them up pretty much solves all shipping issues. It means that Otogi and Honda stop fighting over Shizuka, and Anzu stops trying to decide between Yami and Yuugi. I mean, the same could be said for Persevereshipping, but I still like Support slightly more... Me and Drawerelma call it Underdevelopedcharactershipping. XD
Gah, 4kids... Until this time last year, I despised Yu-Gi-Oh... All because as a kiddie I caught a few episodes of GX, courtesy of 4kids... :/ Haha, you're welcome! It always bugs me that there's a couple of instances in season 0 when he seems rather... Affectionate... When with Anzu, as he's not like that again. It's the only part that makes sense to me, what with Yuugi's initial huge crush on Anzu.
So many plot bunnies, so little time... I have several multi-chapter fic ideas begging to be written down, and have several half-complete oneshots... Can't decide if I should complete the Monarchshipping one first or the Support and Puzzle one... O.e
YOur stories are great! Seriously though, I adored the 100 word challenge thing. I love how they could all be read seperately but they all told a bigger story... Beautiful ;D

Pretty much, yeah... She doesn't seem to account to much at times, other than being the typical hot female friend and at the beginning of the manga, a lot of people seemed to want to bang. I like Tea in YGOTAS since it's really mocking her character in 4Kids version. Seemed a lot more cheesier there than in the original. :'D She's a strange character.

Definitely! And if not original, a very well written story will do as well. :3 Sometimes I prefer a lot of detail in the story to give it depth. But I admit, I still need to read a couple of bad ones every now and then.

Personally, I like both Yami and Yuugi with Anzu and in my opinion they're probably two of the most canon shippings in the series. And you're right, that is no reason to hate her. You could just ship her with someone else. Like, an OC or something.
