Is it just me or does it ruin the artwork when someone thumbs it up? I have sort of done the same thing as you and people like it up and it makes a bigger gap... Was looking for a way to remove it but don't think there is.

What do you want on the BG? Source for what you want on the BG? Do you want it animated? If so, what do you want it to do? etc etc etc

Is it possible to remove the background of artwork and blend it to profile background?
Put some animated text on artwork's right portion from top to bottom that will sync to the center artwork
Top (1st jump of 2 cute characters on the artwork) text "meow"
middle (2nd jump) text "rawr!"
bottom (3rd effect) text "meh"
Seems my explaination is kinda messy. Hope you understand it.
