Any chance Hydrocity is featured in Sonic Generations? It'd be awesome to play all the classic S3&K levels in 3D form like this.

Sadly no, but it'd be awesome
Probably because of marketing.
It's unlikely that many people wanted generations because of the stages from the newer games, so they recreated a few stages from the old games. That made people buy it. Later on they probably will recreate another 3-4 stages from the old games and sell it as another game.
If they'd done all the older stages in this game they wouldn't be able to make more profit from later games.
At least I think this is their strategy. If they won't make the games later like this, they'll fall back with sales again.

Which makes sense. No sense putting all your Eggmans in one basket.

MJWaiteDesign [2011-07-06 20:40:37 +0000 UTC]

Wow, at first I thought this was some kind of diorama done with models and such. The bump mapping and lighting is really nice, the character models are nice too, very old school. How many render passes did this take?

Ricsmond In reply to MJWaiteDesign [2011-07-06 21:49:17 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
I rendered in V-ray: Light cache, 3 Irradiance map prepasses and rendering.
For the motion blur i think i had too much subdivs, so the final render time was 15 hours, but i didn't want to get noisy motion blur.

What did you use

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ricsmond In reply to tailslover42 [2011-07-06 03:28:31 +0000 UTC]

3dsMax with V-ray as always

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tailslover42 In reply to Ricsmond [2011-07-06 03:30:11 +0000 UTC]

What that sounds confusing

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ricsmond In reply to tailslover42 [2011-07-06 03:39:47 +0000 UTC]

In a nutshell: 3dsMax is a modeling program where you build the 3d models, V-ray is a renderer plugin for it, which renders the 3d scene with the materials you assign to the models.
