Conformation: Valerian has an ideal build for a Holsteiner, with the characteristic refined head, arched neck, and elastic gaits.
Temperament + Handling: From the Holsteiner Verband:
"Valerian is a stunning deep red stallion who is decisive and focused. He is not a playful stallion and takes himself quite seriously. He enjoys working and staying on task. He does not respond well to long breaks and needs to have a purpose and job to fufill his needs. He makes excellent decisions on his own without guidance, but isn't overbearing. He is a horse who will look out for your well-being while also respecting your direction. He is adaptive to new tasks and enjoys learning. Liberty would help keep his mind engaged when he isn't actively competing. He is friendly nonetheless and enjoys companionship more than anything.
Valarian has a bad habit of holding air in his lungs while being girthed, so readjustments are required 9/10 times. He enjoys following his human companions along the fenceline when they walk by, and due to his desire to perform and work, he easily comes to the gate when called upon. He loves being kissed on his nose and belly scratches are a must. He will attempt to groom you back when you reach an itchy spot so be prepared to leave with messy hair. He is gentle around mares but does let out love nickers when in passing.
Under saddle Valerian is poised, ready for direction and responsive. He moves well, and has an ambitious gallop, though he can be a lot of horse to handle. He has good speed and reaction time, and is very aware of his surroundings. We at the Holsteiner Verband feel as though he would develop best as a dressage horse or eventer."Favorite Treat: Grains

History: Valerian was purchased directly from the Verband by Ashe Rune Stables. The ad for this imported Holsteiner caught his eye, and between the stallion's good temperament and stellar grading, Akira Gallagher believe he'd be a promising addition to ARS. More importantly, Val would be a good match for his estranged half-brother, Shiro -- who was returning to civilian life after a long career as an army general, without a job and without direction.
As part of his offer to reconnect with his older half-brother and help get him back on his feet in the regular world, Akira figured that the red stallion would be a nice gift. Val was young and had plenty of room left to learn the ropes, sure-footed and unflappable, and had a serious demeanor that would play well with Shiro's own. And if the pairing didn't work out, well... Akira would be more than happy to ride and train the stallion himself.
