Description Was thinking of drawing Snow White for a future daily but her design was a bit ... boring. So altered the designs a bit.

Have anyone ever realized Snow White might be the chubbier Disney princess ? just realized myself, her waist ain't as small as the others.

I think they gave her round feature to show just how innocent she is too

She was supposed to be 14 and was in a more anatomically realistic art style for her movie; only the humans though-dwarves, animals, trees, and the evil Queen's disguise were all made to be more cartoon-y and exaggerated.

the simplicity of this makes her look that much cuter :3

Lovely! ♥ I think that Snow White was chubbier, because the movie was animated using rotoscope method (real person acted it out, they gathered the footage and drew over it every single frame if that makes sense) ^^

rika-dono In reply to E-Zeal [2015-10-26 20:42:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know the Rotoscope method, I liked when Disney used that technique more than nowadays with their 3d cg; The mouvement were much more natural and "alive" ><

I know, it looks lovely! ♥ However rotoscope is such a pain in the arse (animation student here!) I prefer 2D animation more, but, sadly I'm afraid in the future there'll be no 2D animation left. Or very little of it ;^;

2D will survive no matter what, 3D takes much more time, material and persons than 2D.
Not everyone can afford so much hours of work, only the biggest companies can. Disney, pixar, dreamworks and tohei for example

Right, what I meant was that in the future there'll be less and less 2D animated movies (because Disney, Pixar etc are doing everything in 3D). But I know that 2D will survive, especially anime (yuus!)  2D can take a lot of time and people to make too. Animation in general is time-consuming.

Beauty standards were different back then. By the 1930s and 40s women began to "get over" the skinny trend of the 20s and aspired to be more feminine and curvy. Just take Betty Grable and Marilyn Monroe, for example.

Disney said Snow's 14. She's the youngest princess

Walt disney never stated her age, the only source saying she's 14 is buzzfeed and buzzfeed isn't the most trustable source ever ...

The reference comes from "The Art of Walt Disney," by Christopher Finch

RarestPaladin In reply to rika-dono [2015-10-26 20:16:53 +0000 UTC]

There are actually a few sources out there that state she is 14 that aren't buzzfeed.

One is : Christopher Finch. The Art of Walt Disney: From Mickey Mouse to the Magic Kingdoms. p. 66.

And another is a Disney website disney.wikia.com/wiki/Snow_Whi…

I researched it just to see but everything I have found agrees that she is the youngest princess.  I could be wrong, but its what I found while looking  If you find somewhere that states she isn't so young I would love to know!  I adore Disney and she is one of my favorite princesses (other than Belle)    I like looking for Disney trivia

She may be the youngest but Disney wikia stated her age being after wikipedia which was added by someone according to P66. of the book of the Art of Walt Disney so I searched the p.66 on wikipedia ( just to stick to the same material ) and it says something about Walt Disney losing Oswlad the lucky bunny to be replaced by mickey mouse so, Wikipedia ...

Then, only seeing her stated as 14yo, people started thinking she really is but think about it :
" Would a man from the 1930s-1940s would state a 14yo as ( and I'm quoting Walt ) " Old enough to get married " ?

I won't believe she's 14yo as long as Disney won't affirm : " 14yo was considered by Walt Disney as old enough to get married. "
I still think she's minimum 16yo, much more plausible.

Yea, I wasn't too sure about Wikipedia, but the book seemed authentic, so I might go see if I can purchase it somewhere and test it out.  I doubt anyone will know officially.

Yea, it would be nice if there was like a "Debunk Disney Myths" official Disney page, like the myth about Beast's name being Adam.... Beast is not named Adam like most people think.... his name is Beast.  XDD

For how much people know about Disney there is SOOOO MUCH out there that isn't known.  Ah well, Still love Snow whether she is 14 or 101 XDD  14 or 16 are so close... When I was 14 I felt that 16 was so much older than me.... but now that I am older I'm like.... both are babies..... little adorable babus XDD

But anyways your art is great.... -just realized I didn't comment about it XD-  I like what you did with the design.  Its very nice and still very snow white

The problem with Disney is that they are so many things people thinks are official when they're not ... Or think Disney is the actual fairytale. Like the tragic original Little Mermaid, or the Snow Queen ( the original would have made a great movie as it is ) , or the very creepy original sleeping beauty XD

RarestPaladin In reply to rika-dono [2015-10-27 00:34:23 +0000 UTC]

Oh yea I love the original Little Mermaid.  I remember reading it and crying.  Such a great story.  But Disney pretty much just makes all the stories happy.

I still love Disney though.

I think Eilonwy (From Black Cauldron) has a larger waist, but i think thats drawing style? It was disney, but didn't seem disney

rika-dono In reply to angelbunny1391 [2015-10-26 00:07:03 +0000 UTC]

It's not only the waist that is larger in Snow White, also the face and arms. As for Eilonwy, I don't know, I didn't realize up until now that it's a disney XD

wasnt very popular, and very dark for disney – i liked it. Looking back gurgi reminds me of gollum just with apples. XD

AriyaEretsee [2015-10-25 23:29:27 +0000 UTC]

I think her waist isnt so thin because that is the art style that was more common in the time the movie first came out.
If you look at later official disney works she has the standard thinner waist the other princesses have aswell.

rika-dono In reply to AriyaEretsee [2015-10-25 23:33:52 +0000 UTC]

That's kinda sad though, they should have kept her as seen in the movie ><

MightyAudrey [2015-10-25 23:14:12 +0000 UTC]

i realized that too, also she is *technically* the youngest one at the age of 14, but in the original stories of all of them Pocahontas was 12 so she should be the youngest one, but in the Disney version they made her 18 because it is a bit creepy for a guy in his early 30s to be in love with a 12 year old girl, and the original story for her was actually a huge lie made up by john smith, and one of 4 stories he told of young attractive girls throwing themselves in front of him to save his life.

Well, when it comes to aging Disney Characters it feels like none of it makes sense ... except for Tiana, Elsa and Anna.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MightyAudrey In reply to rika-dono [2015-10-25 23:30:33 +0000 UTC]

ya! also when snow white was made 14 was normal marriage age for most of the world. Tiana was the real start to modernized princesses, followed by the CGI ones. originally they had planned to stop making princesses after mulan, but changed there minds after 11 years where they made additions to their plans. also to this day there has been only one princess that didn't have a musical movie.
