Description Ryouichi had always been a patient person, or rather a person who was able to feign patience expertly. No matter what the annoyance, his sharp, gold eyes and stunning smile always gave off the illusion that he was willing to wait. Many things had tested his patience and his well put together act, but through all of them, he had managed to come out on top. Now though, he was facing a challenge that threatened to break that wall.

Kizuna.

The blonde devil had always been the kind of person who got what he wanted, when he wanted it. Even if he had to use underhanded methods to get the object of his desire, it always ended up in his grasp. This was the first time that instant gratification wasn’t his, and the only thing it did was make him want it more. Kizuna wasn’t an object though, he wasn’t a piece of territory to be gained, or a battle to be won. There was no sneaky, deceptive ways for Ryouichi to make the gentle Number Two his. He had to prove that his intentions and emotions were genuine. No lying, no trickery, no dirty deals. He had to go about this the honest way, and that was the hardest part. For the first time in his life, Ryouichi was willing to do that. Those perfect brown eyes, that sincere smile, he wanted it all and he was going to get it. Kizuna was going to be his.

His first attempts at winning the boy with beautiful brown hair over were small and simple, offers to help him with work, or grab him a drink. Kizuna would always politely decline and Ryouichi would walk away. A smile would be present on his face, but inside he was frustrated beyond belief. That was all that it usually took. One simple gesture of kindness and they would be his. Kizuna wasn’t stupid though, and Ryouichi knew that. It became apparent after the first few attempts that this wasn’t going to work the way that he was currently going about it. Nonetheless, a fake smile remained on his face, one that managed to fool everyone. Well, almost everyone.

The effort and attempts after that got increasingly extravagant after that. He would send flowers, candy, anything to catch the other’s attention. All of it would be met with a look of indifference. The other students would joke with Kizuna that he had a secret admirer, and on occasion Ryouichi would even play along with the joking. Secretly, he was trying to draw out a reaction, to see if he slipped up and maybe just admitted something that he wasn’t supposed to hear. It never happened though, which only served to frustrate the blonde banchou even more than he already was. All of the frustration came to point one night, after school. It was late, everyone else had gone home, or so Ryouichi had thought. He let out sigh and let his head fall down onto his arms, which were laying on the desk. It was at that exact moment that the door opened revealing the exact person who was the cause of his frustration. In normal circumstances, he would have immediately gone back to his normal state of false happiness. These weren’t normal circumstances though, so his head remained on the desk, a tired and frustrated look in his eyes.
“I don’t get you Kizuna.”

The dark haired number two arched his eyebrow. “What do you mean?”

“I mean that I’ve tried everything, and yet you still refuse to even consider doing anything with me. What does it take, what do I have to do?” He looked up at the other male, confusion and worry evident in his eyes. Those weren’t emotions that usually graced those golden eyes, but now that he had finally torn down all the walls, they were there. Ryouichi’s confusion only grew when he saw a small smile on Kizuna’s face. Why would he be smiling? Did he really hate him that much that he was enjoying his misery. No, Kizuna wasn’t like that. It had to be something else.

“You just did what you needed to do. You let your act fall. That alone proves that you trust me. All the flowers, all the candy, all the favors, they couldn’t do that.”

“So you trust me now?” Kizuna shook his head at the question, making the blonde teen’s heart fall back down a peg. Had all of his efforts really been in vain? Was everything that he had done for no reason at all. More than not getting what he wanted, he absolutely hated trying and failing. It just made him feel like a mess inside.

“Not yet, not entirely. You’ve done a lot of lying in your eighteen years, more than most people have throughout their entire life. That isn’t just something that I can ignore.” Ryouichi looked away, incredibly downcast at the what had just been said. “But,” his eyes looked back at Kizuna when that single word was uttered. “It’s a start.” A smile, a real one, one of genuine happiness, was now present on the banchou’s face.

“Is it a start enough to get you to go get something to eat with me?” He was being hopeful. Maybe it was too far of a stretch, but he was willing to take the chance. Kizuna thought about the offer for a moment.

“Yeah, its enough of a start for me to get something to eat with you.” At that moment, there were no words to express how elated, how overjoyed Ryouichi was. He didn’t have the Kizuna yet, but he was getting closer. That was enough for him.
