This looks like a scene from 'Day of the Triffids'!
What time of day was this taken and why is it so deserted? Surely, even Chicago is not so bad that everyone avoids it!!

On a Saturday and also it was on the week or in this case weekend of "A Taste of Chicago" which is one big fest. Shot around 7:00am - 8:00am and most of the people are either further north or by the lake.
Downtown Chicago is a happy city - but you don't have to to very far to find the alter-side of the Magnificent Mile. But downtown and around Wrigley Field and other places, very safe and fun.

Truthfully - every time I go to the Loop it's like a drug to me, just the people and atmosphere but unless right in downtown (maybe one of those multi-million dollar condo's) glad I Do Not live in the city of Chicago.
