I know what you mean about the feeling random commenting on old journals... After ignoring them a while, I'll read some, but since whatever they're talking about is maybe a month or so old, it feels kind of weird to comment...
The fact that I can never think of anything to say on deviations also contributes to the problem, so I end up with all these things I want to comment on but can't think of what to say;;; And so they just sit in my inbox, getting more things piled on top.
