Description According to lunar calendar, the eleventh full moon is the End of Buddhist Lent Day. In the north-east of Thailand, Nongkhai, there is an amazing phenomenon on the very day every year called the "Naga fireballs" (บั้งไฟพญานาค ). Hundred thousands of crowd gather by the bank of Mekong River waiting for the spectacular pink fireballs drifting into the night sky from the river surface. Legend has it that the Naga had paid respect to the Buddha when He descended from heaven after He had met His Mother there on the day of the eleventh full moon over 2 thousand years ago.

*'Naga' (นาค ) is an amphibous creature often featuring in Thai myth and literature. It looks like a great serpent which is able to spit venom and fire. Naga is the chief rival of 'Garuda'(ครุฑ ).

This is my entry for ~xBluepearlx 's Moonlight Contest .

there are very few artists here that can put the transparency of watercolors to good use as well as you can. amazing job once again i love the details of the Naga and the intricate patterns it creates when it overlaps the human body (such as the hand and the stomach area). how did you create the glowing lights in the background?

Thank you so much for your comment.

I splattered yellow color on wet blue paint and then added water from the tip of my brush into the cores of yellow blotches. Just before the paint became totally dry, I used a cotton bud to lift the almost-dry spotty paint to create the glowing lights in the background.
