Description Woot! About twenty four hours of total work later, we finally get the final product! I hope you love it.

So why a festival? Well you remember that party we kept mentioning in the first chapter? (I hope you do. We mentioned it like twenty times! X) ) So I want to something to reflect the feeling of a party without being a party. Thus a festival came to mind.

This is a specific festival though. I chose Tanabata which is a festival for lovers! The story behind it even reminds me a bit of Romeo and Juliet.

Once upon a time, there lived the Orihime, daughter of the Tentei (King of the Heavens, the universe itself). She weaved fabulous creations by the banks of the Amanogawa (Milky Way). However she was very sad for her hard work deprived her of the chance to meet her true love. At last, her father took pity upon Orihime and arranged for her to meet Hikoboshi (the Cowherder Star) who lived and worked across the Amanogawa. The two fell in love at first sight and were quickly married. However after their marriage, they were so absorbed in loving one another that they neglected their duties. The cows wandered about Heaven unchecked and no cloth was weaved. Angry, Tentei separated the lovers, sending Hikoboshi back across the Amanogawa. The lovers were forbidden from seeing each other. Orihime became despondant and cried for her husband. Moved by his daughter's tears, Tentei told her he would allow her to see him again if she did her weaving as she should. If she worked hard throughout the year, she could meet Hikoboshi on the seventh day of the seventh month. Orihime agreed and worked hard. When the appointed time came, Orihime was heartbroken as she had no way to cross the Amanogawa and was thus still separated from her beloved husband. A flock of magpies saw her tears and took pity on her. They agreed to create a bridge for her with their wings every year, so long as it did not rain. If it rains, the lovers must wait another year to meet.

(Why write all that? Because I loooooooooooovvvvvvvveeeeeeeee writing fairy tales, mine or not.)

Because of this story, Tanabata is a festival for lovers because it takes place on the day Orihime goes to meet her husband Hikoboshi. The tradition is to write your wish on a piece of paper and hang it on bamboo along with other decorations. Often the wishes are romantic in nature and written as poetry. Usually these decorations are set adrift in a river or burned after the festival.

Why a summer festival? Well, it's closer to the time in the comic. It's got a pretty story behind it. And lastly, because I'm freezing to death here and need warmth to tide me through!

All that to get down to the reasoning of this picture. So we have Sasuke helping Sakura hang their wish as dusk falls. (Sorry for the crappy bamboo. I was quite frustrated by this point and just kinda slapped it on there.) What happened to Sakura's kimono? Um... it was originally going to be red but I decided she's pictured in red waaaaaaayyyyy too much. So I shifted through kimonos for sale on eBay and found this one that had this soft sakura pattern on the bottom of the skirt and one sleeve. So I pasted it in there. I was gonna do it by hand but then when I went to do it, I was like wait. Too much work! So I cut a corner.

I was going to have the rest of the gang in there but I decided simpler was better. I wish I could show you the wash I did for the sky in the original watercolor I was working on for this. But I'd also have to show you the crappy kimonos on that one. But the watercolor sky is much prettier.

Now I'm blushing! I do my best. But even then I'm dissatisfied. I blame Arina Tanemura. Her attitude's rubbing off on me.
