Oh let me tell you about Jeanne and Gilles. let me just tell you about that beauty that is Jeanne and Gilles and the tragedy that is Gilles De Rais and Jeanne.

Gilles loved Jeanne beyond anything protected her and took care of her during the war, the people are them would talk about how reckless these two where yet their companion in arm was something formidable.

You have to understand, Jeanne at the time was but 16 years old. [she was born in 1412, Gilles born in 1405 that's a 7 year old gap] She did not understand what love is nor she could comprehend it, instead she dedicated her life to God and France, and what does France do, freaking burn her in the stake when she saw signs of 'blasphemy' [she was said in history that she told Gilles that she heard the voice of Archangel Micheal and he told her what to do in war. Gilles warned her against telling anyone else cause the dude at that time was 23 years old and understood the situation. he protected her for god know how long but could not bare to be there for her trial and was there when she was executed.]

It is the most tragic filled love story, a one sided love story that continued beyond the grave, the only reason Gilles went bonka was cause Jeanne died, the love of his life died. Jeanne died too young, and the irony is most draw her fully developed while in truth she was still a teenager, 16-17 when the Siege of Orlenes happened. Her major military win.

And who'd by her side the ENTIRE time Gilles De Rais.... hell according to the UNESCO case studies in 1992 they realized that Gilles was framed for his crimes, that there was no way he could do it. and yet in the trial he spoke about evil and how no one but him was the fault of this, and you have to wonder what sort of person was Gilles De Rais.

After Jeanne died, he seemed to withdraw himself from the court and the world in general, seeming to keep to himself and needlessly seem to just give away his rather vast wealth. Perfect opportunity for jealous nobles to fabricate stories against him. And why would he deny the claims, when its likely he wished to die yet, being catholic, would not take his own life? Suicide by "cop" (royal court).

Long and useful explanation, enjoyed reading it.

Never heard about the 1992 UNESCO case studies, the last thing I heard was about his execution, after a trial in which he accepted having killed a lot of young child, just because. Now I'm looking for the documentary, hope to find it.

Anyway, Gilles is a deep character with a tragig story, even a victim of his own love for Joan and a society who only feel envy towards him.
