Description Very, very basic overview of how a pressurized nuclear plant works, scanned from an old resource picture.

Rancho Seco has been long since decommissioned, but I figure this will give you an idea that there aren't any wizards or anything. Things have of course changed around a bit since the construction of the plant, but the basics are the same.

This had to be scanned as two different images and put together, so sorry about the obvious seam. I repaired it as best I could.

Figured technical resource stock was the best place for this, let me know if there's a better one.

I have a stock account now! Go Here for more stock photos from me!

Once through SG's? Never had them at the plants I've worked at... Mostly U-tubes.

Never worked at a BWR, and I'm afraid to, to be honest.

Yeah as I understand it the once-throughs are kind of uncommon in the industry.

I haven't yet either. Just been at PWRs. BWRs, eh, just a higher likelihood I'll have something to decontaminate in any given day.

And I thought TMI was the only plant with OTSGs.
You learn something new all the time!
This is a cool piece of nuclear history.

What I've learned along the way is that while each plant tends to be slightly different, there's a few common themes, so if you see it one way at one plant, you'll probably see something real similar at another.

Glad you like it!

Rancho Seco was shut down in the mid eighties and is now officially decommissioned. I seriously doubt that any photography or material from it could be considered still under any restriction. This sort of drawing is what you'd see in basic training.
