When you think about it, even aside from having the same coloured clothing, Gokuu and Naruto really do have a fair few things in common...*spoilers*
Both Gokuu and Naruto go completely insane the first time they transform, and do something useful. The second time they do almost nothing useful by transforming and have their transformation removed. Later on they both receive the power of their transformation without going nuts (Naruto by learning to use the red chakra, and Gokuu by drinking the Shinsui water in the Piccolo Daimao Saga).

^_^ I guess in some small ways it shows that Kishimoto was a fan of Toriyama's...

The problem? Episode one showed that Naruto does not need chakra to be a good ninja, yet failed...
The difference? Goku was trained well enough, Naruto was sabotaged until Pein arc, on his own... Almost!

Well, Kishi did come out and say that Goku was his inspiration for Naruto's character.
This is furthered with a more resent tribute with one of the tailed beasts actually being called Son Goku and his Jinchuriki is Roshi

he was INSPIRED by dragon ball to make naruto! theres the emo guy [well, for db emo] who the hero hated early on [sasuke and piccolo] but joined forces with the hero. then the females [chi-chi and sakura] that make the hero look like little girls and whom the hero likes [in goku's case love]. then the inner demons [the ozaru ape and the nine-tailed fox] that sometimes has to save the hero from death.
