Its held on with hooks in the Materia slot, I know this because I cosplayed him and found that was a very easy way to do it, and any other way would put too much strain on a persons back (Although I'm not really a real 1st Class SOLDIER so Zack would most likely have a stonger back then I! Haha!)
But anyway, that is a fine sexy picture! lots of love to it.

I think it was in the discarded concepts section of FF7's Ultimania Omega that said Cloud's sword actually DOES stay on by magnets. I'm not sure whether it counts as canon, but it's still pretty funny.

the holes r 4 the materia slots so there must hav some sort of slot on his belt and the strap that goes around his bak and ova his shoulder...yay, i found that out!!!! XD
