I'm having another go at acrylic portraits, as I haven't painted a portrait since Sherlock (and that was over a year ago). I still find using traditional media tough, as it's so different to my digital painting methods, but I do love the textured brush strokes that you can't really replicate on computer.My sister and I are re-watching Firefly at the moment, so Mal seemed a good model for this! If you're not a Firefly fan*, then you may recognise the actor as Nathan Fillion, of Castle fame.
*There are two kinds of people, those who are Firefly fans, and those who haven't watched Firefly

I can not tell you how happy I am to see you are a fan of the show. There simply are not enough of us in the world in my opinion.
Also, I love how you did the gun soooo much. It has a lot of really good depth to it.

Here here (drinks to that last comment) I recently was plotting to get one of my friends to watch it. I was telling her about the show, and how sad it is that it was canceled. Her husband was there too and he just goes, "Oh, if it was canceled, then it must have sucked."
I had to get up and kick him.
Beautiful piece too. I can never get acrylic that smooth. You really captured him too.
