This one took me some time to plan out as well, especially when it comes to his team of six Pokemon by the time of the Kalos League itself but hey, it was ultimately worth it in the end since it is going to be a mix of his team from the games and the anime series much like with Shauna's team. Yes, his home town is Santalune City much like in the anime continuity mainly because the games never stated where he came from so I basically decided to go this route which makes perfect sense all things considered and yes, the alternate continuity where "I Choose You!", "The Power of Us", and "The Secrets of the Jungle" all take place in has him originating from Pallet Town with Charmander being his starter there but yeah it would be better for me to stick with his hometown from the original anime timeline for my head canon but that's just me. Also him having Crawduant does balance out Serena having Squirtle/Wartorte/Blastoise from Professor Sycamore much like how Calem would be the one to get Bulbasaur/Ivysaur instead of Shauna hence her having her starter from the games here. Apart from this, his role is going to be a combination of the games and anime, meaning he is going to participate in the Kalos League like the anime in case there are those curious on what I have planned for him when I reach the XY saga. Well like always, I hope that this is to your liking plus I really think that it would be interesting to see how he does in a battle with Calem later down the line and especially when the actual tournament itself takes place following the defeat of Team Flare and its leader Lysandre.
