Yes, the duel between the two females still happens like in the original canon only through different circumstances from before when it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Heart of the Cards... I'm not going to spoil what leads to this happening, but trust me it'll be way worth it when I get to that point. I mean, I do have plans for Tea and it involves her slowly going from being on the sidelines to actually becoming more involved as things progress with her match against Mai helping to slowly build up on it and there's a reason for that as you'll see later. Okay, her Dueling skills are slightly better than mediocre compared to others, after all she has been able to defeat Joey five times in a row (the other four times being off screen) as revealed in episode 2 of the DM anime series and that was back when he only had Monster Cards in his deck no less since he didn't add any Spell Cards and Trap Cards until the next episode pretty much. Here though, something major occurs in the story which leads to her asking Yugi to teach her how to be a better duelist which not only helps improve her skill but at the same time it also leads to the two childhood friends slowly bonding closer than in the original which carries on and helps her in later arcs such as Battle City for example. Also you notice that not only are Mai's Harpie Lady Sisters and Harpie's Pet Dragon included but also the Dark Magician Girl herself, the female Spellcaster is going to become one of Tea's signature Monsters in the duels she will participate in which would contribute in the brunette slowly realizing her true potential in being a wonderful female duelist.

That and you can thank the mobile app game Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links for inspiring this idea as I've made a deck for both her DM counterpart and her DSOD one with the two involving Dark Magician Girl being included which helped me win plenty of duels in the game when using both versions of Tea. Other than that, I really hope you like how this turned out overall especially as part of me wishes more was done for her in terms of potential within the story as a whole hence me wanting to rectify that little problem here which hopefully I'll do a good job at.
