Given, to be berated
Over and over...

To avoid the searing pain,
Would I need to give?
Effort was never enough
On its own. Results required,
Lest your wrath invoked.
What is “good enough”?
The definition is lost.
What even is “good”?
Neither of us are,
Only screaming, both become
Humans to monsters.
We both failed. And in
The end... couldn’t handle me.
Your fire scorched me black,
Gorgeous dancing flames,
Hypnotic and dangerous.
I’m too soft for you.
You were wise to leave.
I couldn’t bring myself to.
I’m thankful you did.
Your marks forever...
Pretty scars etched on my skin,
Oil stains in my heart.
Painful lessons learned.
It’s time to repot again.
Time to breathe again.
