The following contains materials that are based on my own opinion, and I am not trying to get people to change their minds either this is just the way I feel about this certain topic.

Other than that...

ENJOY!!

Being a longtime anime/manga fan, when I was first starting out one of the tropes that I immediately got drawn into was the famous trope known as "shipping" which seems to occur in almost any series that you watch whether it be animated or real-life and regardless if it's in the East or the West media, I would honestly have to say that when it comes to the anime/manga industry that is where it's the most popular and even at times for many, "serious business" where it usually has some, if not, MOST of the fanbase rooting for a fictional romance to happen usually between two characters and most of the time it will be the main male and female protagonists of the series. Of course, those fans who invest themselves in romantic plotlines are also called, "shippers" and when these types of shippings happen, regardless one of the biggest wars that go on within that certain series itself is not just the final battle with the ultimate big-bad but also one that many fans like myself are very, VERY familiar with and that is...the shipping wars. Shippers tend to become emotionally (sometimes WAY too much) invested in their pairings as some of them have a distinct ship that they like over others, while some of them are torn between contradictory pairings. When I first started out I was just like that where I shipped certain characters together because they have shown to have that spark and their interactions with each other throughout the series too.

Over the years I have had my own share of disappointments when it came to certain pairings that I shipped that didn't get together regardless of the strong bond and interactions between them and even though when said pairings turned out to be canonical by "The Word of God", I have come to accept it but I never stopped supporting the pairing that I shipped even after it was all over and official as those pairings still live on to this day through fanfiction.  But over time there were a couple of shippings that I use to be on board with that made me jump that ship when I went back to watch that particular series years later and realized just how toxic that pairing really is but especially when seeing how one of the characters was abusive or hostile (mostly the female) towards the other (i.e. InuYasha and Kagome).

But long story short as I am going to be seriously honest with what I am about to say here. As many of you know and not trying to sound like a broken record, I am not following the final arc (hopefully it is) of My Hero Academia because of a "gut feeling" that I have but also for other reasons too. But in the end, I seriously hope that no "official couples" happen between any characters at all. My Hero Academia has indeed given readers and viewers a different perspective on what usually happens in a "typical Shōnen series" and has even shown to break some of those rules and traditional "Shonen Tropes" that have made the series more interesting to watch and one of those particular tropes is that of the "romantic" setting as I can tell you right now, I have not seen any romance of any kind in this series and I honestly want to see it end that way too.

I really don't have anything against most of the characters in My Hero Academia (except, Endeavor, Mineta, and a few others) and I do like the students in Class 1-A (except for Mineta) but this is once again my own honest opinion when I say that nothing has happened in the series to make me believe that any of the pairings that other fans ship should happen and in this particular case what it really comes down to is a severe case of "Shipping Goggles" syndrome. "Shipping Goggles" is the trope where a person or person(s) read nearly everything as romantic/sexual subtext which seems to be the case for My Hero Academia.  One time when I watched the final exam where Tsuyu and Tokoyami were paired up together and after it was over a friend of mine messaged me later that day to tell me that she now shipped them together and I messaged her back asking her..."Why?" this upset her a bit as I wasn't trying to put down her decision but when she said it's because of how well they worked together in the final exam I once again said, "So?".

She was not happy about my "attitude" but I was just being truthful to what I was telling her because just from the way the series has played out so far any pairings that would or even might happen in the end I honestly feel won't be natural because there have never been any episodes in the anime or in the manga panels that show those particular characters spending time together alone to get to know each other to build up to a type of romantic relationship and not to be a real downer about it, not even Ochaco and Izuku have but I am going to do a separate article on those two later.

I feel that the My Hero Academia series has really shown, especially to those who have been anime/manga fans for so long and might feel the same way that shipping can really be blown out of proportion at times because when two heterosexual people get paired up to fight together in this series all of a sudden fans are like, "Oh!! They are so cute together!! I ship them!" Especially in the case of My Hero Academia, it makes no sense at all, and also, it's really getting old and very tiring. All these characters did was join forces, they have not done anything else before, during, or even after the battle to show that they are interested in each other for any other reason except teaming up to take down a villain or to pass an exam. Much like the famous legendary series, One Piece, My Hero Academia has not really been a romance-centric kind of series and I think that it should remain that way. The characters, especially the students of Class 1-A are all just such great friends that it would honestly feel kind of weird if any of them wound up as couples in the end. Even though it is fun to speculate and imagine, I think that My Hero Academia, just like One Piece is one of the few manga/anime franchises around that proves that not every pair is meant to be together romantically and that the term "love" is seriously overlooked as "LOVE" is always looked at as romantic to fans when really, romantic love is not the only type of love.

Now some might argue that there have been moments between Izuku and Ochaco and even though I really do like both of these characters I have to say right now that I never saw those scenes between them as romantic moments but just tender moments between two good friends. Also, the moment in the manga and the anime when Ochaco decides to "lock her feelings" away because she wanted to concentrate on becoming a pro-hero really seemed to seal it for me on shipping them but that decision of hers is also another topic to be saved for a future motivational screenshot. Because one could argue that and as corny as this might sound, 'love' along with other certain positive feelings that might have been "overly used" in other animes/mangas (you know what I am talking about) are very important to have in life and also very important to have if one inspires to be a hero in the hero society of My Hero Academia.

I just feel that if Kōhei Horikoshi was going to include romance and hints into any futuristic pair-ups he should have done it earlier on in the series or already have particular characters (mostly the adults) already shown to be in committed relationships with someone and should not hold off on it until the end where there might be an epilogue that shows the characters all grown up with their possible love interest, married and with kids as that has really become a common thread that is usually done in most Shonen franchises and I really think that needs to stop too.

Over the years there have been many other Shōnen franchises that have earlier on in those series given fans "ship-teases" and characters that truly showed to have that connection with each other more than the characters in My Hero Academia ever have.

But now, I just can't see it happening as My Hero Academia has really stuck to what a more classic Shōnen is which is a fighting series focused more on action than relationships, with romance generally either perfunctory or "Played for Laughs". I seriously think that Kōhei Horikoshi should actually hit the "reset button" at the end. To those of you who don't know what that means, the "reset button" is a trope term meaning it's a plot device that returns everything to the status quo. Because in the end if any type of pairing happens between any of the characters then it will just leave the fandom split on the decision just as it did for other manga series such as Naruto and Bleach, whereas it was pretty obvious that Naruto and Sakura were never meant for each other and Bleach...even though I have come to respect Kubo's decision, I still don't have words to describe how the ending was (and still is) trash.

The "reset button" trope was actually used once before in one of Rumiko Takahashi's earlier works and in fact, it was actually her very first manga series that launched her successful career as a Mangaka, called: Urusei Yatsura which was a subtrope to "Will They Or Won't They?" *SPOILER WARNING: SKIP THIS PART IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FINAL CHAPTER OF THE MANGA! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!*

To those who have been on my DeviantArt page and seen some of my other articles, I did one several years back on the first Rumiko Takahashi "couple" pairing of Ataru and Lum who are the main protagonists of the series and at the end of her series instead of making it official between them she instead decided to hit the "reset button" leaving readers to wonder if they'll ever be able to to have a stable relationship.

For a further explanation as to why she decided to go this route click on the link for further reading but please, read at your OWN RISK!

Link: To be or not to be

With the My Hero Academia manga in its final arc (hope it is), I honestly think that in the end, this would be the best decision for Kōhei Horikoshi to do because even though it would still be met with anger from some fans it would more of a relief to leave viewers/readers open to their own thoughts on what would or might even happen as I am sure that either way when the manga ends it will still be met with some criticism. So in reality, no one actually wins in the end when it comes to seeing their pair-ups happen as something usually happens later on that makes them seem incompatible with each other or they are even shown to be bad parents.

I sincerely hope that Kōhei Horikoshi ends the series in a way that differentiates from what has been done at the end of other Shōnen Jump mangas and honestly, I would rather see him hit the "reset button" and leave it up to the imagination of the readers/viewers on either, "Will They or Won't They?".

I do not own My Hero Academia or any of the screenshots they belong to Kōhei Horikoshi
