Is there any chance that you tell me how to knit those happy critters? I am learning knitting right now and would like to improve my skills by rather knitting an octo than a scarf!

These little guys are actually crocheted, but if you can knit, I'm sure that you could crochet as well. Making a ball with crochet isn't too tough. I just start out with three stitches, then I go back into the first stitch to make a round. I then just go around and around, adding one stitch for every stitch I do. Once it's big enough, I just single crochet until it's long enough for the body, then decrease by one stitch every other stitch. The legs are just a long chain that I tie to the body.
They're rather simple, but I don't really know crocheting terms too well, so I'm not sure if that makes much sense. I'm sure that you could do the same thing with knitting on double pointed needles with i-cords for legs.
