I really like this piece. I like it because I liked the effect that the photo-manipulation had, a subtle surreal element. But mostly, I like it because its a picture of my adorable boyfriend. He makes a good Narcissus.

For those who aren't so familiar (I'm a huge mythology nerd), Narcissus was an extremely handsome young man, who was sought by everyone for his all-around sexiness. Everyone, including the men. More importantly, he was loved by a young nymph (a woodland spirit) named Echo. Echo one day got herself in trouble with Hera, because she distracted her while Zeus had one of his zillions of affairs, and as punishment, she was cursed to only repeat what others say (hence, echoes). Narcissus also got himself into a bind. He was so handsome, it all went to his head, and he got so proud (hence Narcissism) that he spurned all his lovers, and wandered through the woods, in the vain attempt to find a mate as perfect as himself. But of course, he was unsuccessful - until he caught a glance of himself in a pool of water. From that moment, he would not leave the bank of the little pond, but stayed there, crooning at his own reflection: finally someone as perfect as himself. He wasted away without any nourishment until the gods took pity on his sorry ass, and turned him into a flower. Echo also pined away, until there was nothing but her voice echoing behind.

Moral of the story: my boyfriend is a great Narcissus.
