It has been 25 years since the dinosaurs of Isla Nublar have been brought to the mainland. Across the globe, you can see their effects on ecosystems, the economy, culture and now on themselves. Slowly they and the creatures they share an environment with have been adapting. One such example can be seen with the Baryonyx.

They have now spread across the Western coast of North America and have grown in number to a population of nearly 1000. Due to their numerousness, it has called into question the animal's rights. After much debate, a consensus came to. They would be treated like any other animal and thus attempts to recapture were stopped. They are listed as endangered despite the fact that their range and population continue to increase. The Baryonyx still resemble their Nublar ancestors but have changed considerably in the past 25 years, firstly they are smaller. The Nublar Baryonyx's averaged 10m in length, their descendants rarely grow longer than 8m. It is believed they are smaller because of a lack of large animals to prey on and to avoid detection. Also, while it is unknown if the prehistoric Baryonyxs had them, these Baryonyx grow a warm coat of proto-feathers during the fall and then shed them during the spring to act as warmth during the cold winters.

Here, a juvenile baryonyx strikes a lucky kill, a large 4m long white sturgeon, fairly common fish in these waters. He crouches low over the fish and starts tearing at it's thick, armored hide. His claws making the work easy. Gulls gather around, waiting to have their share of the feast.
