Yesss! Those are poppies, but I thought they didn't look like poppies at all! I'm really happy you noticed! <3 I'm trying to draw different things so I decided to draw some flowers, since it was Valentine's day themed (even thought poppies aren't valentine's day flowers ahah)

yes they do look like them! I've always loved flowers, and on the last two or three years have been trying to study and recognize some of my favorites and their meanings .
Since flowers are so important they always appear on my dreams.
I think love and affection is the general meaning/theme for all of them....Sometimes roses are too overusedΒ
poppies are more related to sleep,dreams though, what fits your painting very well since your pallette has a mix of high and low saturations that are not usually found in hyper realistic art and photos. They give a mystic and ethereal feel to the painting that remind of that vintage&folk fashion photography.
and that how much I love poppies XD Β - I study things that nobody finds use for . __ .Β

That's really cool! It's an unusual passion but it sounds really interesting 
I felt like roses would be the obvious choice so I wanted to do something different, I thought of poppies because they reminded me of my childhood
It's funny that the meaning of poppies fits my painting so well, since I didn't even know about it XD

the orange/red may be bright, but the blues help tone them down. also i love that you shaded with blue in general. it looks amazing!
