This is gorgeoussss! I really love the mood, and the limited colors you used...it all just works together so well. Is this based on something specific, or just the quote? It makes me curious!

LATE COMMENT IS LATE

The picture is based on my collective appreciation of an opera, a poem, and a beautiful myth. When I was in Vienna, I fell in love with Gluck's 'Orpheus and Eurydice'. It was like listening to pure grief, but in a healing way...if that makes sense? I was going through a rough period where members of my family were sick and my dog had died and I was on the other side of the world and couldn't do anything about it. Anyway, the music made an exceedingly profound impression on me, and I tried to cram all that into a single picture. XD not sure if I succeeded, but that was the intent, and I'm fairly happy with it.

Thank you for your delightful comments dear!

"As flies to wanton boys are we to the gods; they kill us for their sport."

Mmm, mythology. I detect hints of Orpheus and Eurydice with a whiff of Persephone. MAXIMUM APPROBATION.

Hey, I was in Scotland this past week! Wifi was in rather short supply where I was staying, so I'm afraid I went and got you something without consulting you first.
It's a somewhat eccentric item. And I'll tell you right now that it's not reading material or tinned haggis.

You, madam, never cease to astound me. Unwarranted gifts? From across the pond?? I can't say I approve! (except I totally do). Ohmigod you are wonderful.

Tinned haggis? ...Tinned?

AdAbsurdum In reply to RivkaZ [2010-04-09 05:11:12 +0000 UTC]

Tinned.
And did you know that you can get vegetarian haggis, also in a can?
It seems to me like that completely defeats the purpose of a dish that's famous for being made out of gross animal bits, but what do I know?
Also there was haggis pizza in the supermarket.
But we're not that brave.

OF COURSE YOU APPROVE. EVERYONE LOVES GETTING PACKAGES IN THE MAIL!

YOU CAUGHT ME. I really do love getting packages in the mail! Second only to finding kittens in my slippers. And..... sixty-five hundred million over finding haggis on my pizza.

Orpheus? Man, I love this - the background, colours, lines are all so elegant and I wish I was not so tired so I might actually have something intelligent to say.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RivkaZ In reply to CarnelianKey [2010-04-01 21:11:01 +0000 UTC]

Indeed yes! Points for knowing. It's probably the Greek legend that's closest to my heart, and for me, synonymous with grieving (in a good way). Also my favorite opera.

CarnelianKey In reply to RivkaZ [2010-04-03 02:44:53 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! I've always loved it, for similar reasons, but I admit I don't know the opera. Then again, I don't know much opera in general, alas.
