A little history: Mr. Joudain did not serve in the military at any time in his life. If he had, we would have had to deal with an entirely different kind of monster. But he did go over seas to the trenches for the highly patriotic purpose of peddling opium, morphine, liquor and whatever else wasn't in stock to the boys in the service.
Our medic here may have just tried to back out of a deal with Mr. J, which is just the sort of ungentlemanly behavior that he doesn't appreciate in a business partner.
