I've uploaded part of this several times on Tumblr as WIPs (sorry to everyone who has seen this for the millionth time in one form or another), but I've only ever uploaded part of it in colour. Here are both together. I guess you can get a better idea of what it was supposed to be. It looks really wonky, though. Sorrysorrysorry.This is, like, two years old now. Wow.

Beautiful animation. And the expression Tia gives is perfected. So full of emotion.
I'm guessing that she's seeing Twilight's lack of interest in friendship and is saddened by it.

I think she knew about Nightmare Moon's return and she was deeply worried Twilight would fail to stop her if she don't make any friends.

That could also work. But I like to think this is before the events of Season 1 and simply when Twilight is a student with no friends.
To me, that's more powerful of her character than simply worrying that the hero can't beat the villain, and more that she is sad that someone (who she probably looks at like a daughter) is very alone by will alone.
But that's just my opinion.

Maybe this shows the timeline where Twilight does not read the book from Episode 1 and doesn't head home to look up "The Mare in the Moon", and Celestia is worried that her plan isn't working.

So... basically this is saying that the whole reason Celestia REALLY sent Twilight to ponyville, in the first place, was so the "anti-social" Twilight would disappear and she'd make some new friends. THen it moved on to the whole "Destiny to become a princess" thing.

This is taking place in the very first episode when Twilight ran past those ponies on the bridge. She made some excuse as to why she couldn't go to the party they were inviting her to. This animation shows that Celestia saw her turn them down and just how anti social Twilight was back then.
