What about Nissan S30? Started the Tuner Import world. Also, Wangan Midnight did a decent job.

you mean the Datsun 240Z right? it has a good reputation, however i think compared to the 86, the 86 is more notable and iconic than the 240Z and i think that Wangan Midnight reminded everyone how good of a car the 240Z was.

Yes. As much as I love the 80s era, the S30 was an affordable muscle car that introduced America to the Japanese performance market. Also, the Ford Escort MkI is known as the famous vintage rally car. The Group-B rally class spawned Lancia Stratos, Audi Quattro, Ford RS200, ... If it comes down to media, yes the AE86 is the most famous due mostly to Initial D, this is also the main car I drive and tune in GT5. I guess my argument is, history and fame differ only by how it is presented.
